What is it?
mailman-clamav is a handler for the
Mailman Mailing List Manager. It allows
incoming messages for mailing lists to be scanned for viruses, and if a
virus is found the message will be held or discarded.
The discard option is particularly useful. Many viruses and worms get held
by the normal Mailman checking for subscribed users, etc. However, in the
case of a recent worm, we had a list administrator who had to manally
discard over 100 held messages per day.
Virus scanning tends to have very few false positives, and can allow a
large volume of e-mail to bypass the list administrators, allowing them to
concentrate more fully on the handling of legitimate messages.
