Do you have more servers to install with less man-power? This distribution
is for you.
Welcome to Kevin's Redhat Uber Distribution, Server Edition. This is
a short introduction to what you can expect from KRUDserver.
We developed KRUDserver based on our experience with installing and
configuring network servers. One of the first things we do after
installing a server is to go through the list of packages and delete
all the extra stuff that you don't really need on a server, but that
the base RedHat install throws in. You know, things like X Windows,
NFS, AFS, Kerberos... On a web server?
Software you haven't installed isn't going to be used to compromise your
server.
It's more than just stripping out a bunch of packages though. There are
also a bunch of kick-start configurations to make common server installs
require even less work. See the "F6" help at the main boot screen for more
information. Kick-start configurations are included to speed installation
of:
DNS Servers
File Servers (NFS and Samba)
Mail Servers
SQL Database Servers (MySQL and PostgreSQL)
Web Servers
Mega Servers (all of the above)
It also has package groupings in the main installer which are more tuned to
servers. A list similar to the above.
Last but not least, we were hoping to be able to get it to fit all on one
CD, after removing all the GUI stuff. We've been able to do it without
having to remove useful server tools as well. If you find something that
really should be on a server install but isn't, let us know...
A single CD distribution should help make installing that rack of 40 1U
machines go a little bit smoother.
Thanks for taking a look at KRUDserver.
