I've been pretty happy with JFS on my laptop. One of the bigger issues I've had is that I had extracted some files from a tar-file, and the resulting directory had some oddly named files which I couldn't remove. Even after running a full JFS file-system check, using the latest version of the JFS utilities. Kevin happened upon a solution.

I realized that the problem was that the files in question included UTF-8 characters in the name. Kevin found a posting on the JFS mailing list about this issue. You can remove the files by doing “mount -o remount,iocharset=utf8 /home” (if you are having problems with the /home partition), to be able to remove the file. Seemed to work fine on the system I was having problems with.
