The kernel I mentioned yesterday I found tonight did not have the PCMCIA serial driver. I've built a new version of the kernel which includes the PCMCIA serial drivers. Note that I did remove a number of drivers that I didn't have any interest in, let me know if there's something your T42p needs. Enjoy.
