clamav is a pretty cool GPL'ed virus scanner for linux (and windows now).
We use it in a number of places where we have Linux mail servers that handle mail for folks that are still using windows on their desktops.
It works nicely, has up to date virus defs and in general is a product I am really happy with. You have to be carefull however, as they add features all the time and sometimes they aren't things that some people want. For example, today we had a client that was running clamav on their mail server and were unable to send a 12MB zip file. The new clamav versions default to 10MB as a max size for a archive and further default to blocking anything that hits that limit. It was pretty easy to increase the limit to 25MB once we knew that was the problem.comments powered by Disqus
